Nutra-Trim Weight Management Gum ~ Review & Samples!

A gum that "compliments" (love that) a sensible diet, and activity program - for weight loss. We've all been schooled on the benefits of chewing gum,to help lower cravings. Added, infused with Green Tea Extract, L-Carnitine & Chromium Picolinate - (natural & naturally-occurring elements that increase & regulate metabolism) Nutra-Trim was something I wanted to try!

My favorite is the Berry gum, and my mom was partial to the Spearmint. I really liked the taste, and the fact that it's 2.5 cals per piece and SUGAR Free! It's also caffeine-free and does not contain ephedra. Now, it's not going to last an hour (C.Breezy won't be writing no songs for it, lol) - but definitely the burst of flavor gives it a nice run ... and staved off my mid-day work-day mind-less snacking desires ... lol ...

Now it's your turn, if you'd like to try ... leave a comment, and/or email madamethejourney@gmail.com and I'll send some your way! 2 berry & 3 mint are available. ~PC

"Fight" campaign: Beyond October - 7% of all Pink Ribbon marked Nutra-Trim products will be fowarded to Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LLBC) , an organization that empowers women facing the disease.

just a few grabs from today ...

I've had the juice, candles, lotion, anti-bacterial soap - but never experienced pomegranate in it's original state. After noticing they were only 2 for $3, I scooped this "wonder fruit" up - to give it a go ... lol. I'll be sure to report once I indulge.

Oh, and I will begin sharing the prices of my items as well ... I've been compiling info for basically a 'healthy living on a budget' reference. I'm not easily sold on healthier choices, being completely unaffordable ... you either pay now, or pay later ... more on that later. ~PC

Uh-Oh: Weight Watchers SUES Curves over Commercial ...

Even as a fmr. WW, the clever commercial where the lady walking towards a WW building, was umm ... kidnapped by like-women and driven a few storefronts over to join Curves™ ... (albeit illegal) made me chuckle. Well, WW didn't ...

In a Manhattan Federal Court Friday 10/23/09, Weight Watchers® filed suit with claims that the center's (Curves™) advertisements confused customers, in addition to utilizing the Weight Watchers® name and logo without permission ... ::developing:: ~PC

Beyoncé Coming to Wii Fit & NutriSystem, to Wal-Mart?

1. Beyoncé is looking to bring her dance and choreography to Nintendo's Wii Motion platform as a new dance fitness game. When addressing the topic she said the following:

"I'd like to get involved in video games, since I really love Wii Fit. I think it would be a great idea to incorporate choreography, because, for me, my workout is way more fun when it involves dancing, as opposed to running on a boring treadmill. So I would love to do some kind of fitness game but incorporate dance and performance into it. I think a lot of women would enjoy that."

2. (Reuters) - Fitness-products company NutriSystem, Inc. said it would start selling its Nutrisystem 14-Day starter weight loss program on Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s shelves in October.

The program consists of a Nutrisystem menu, free meal shipping, access to weight-loss counseling and free membership in Nutrisystem's online community, and is priced at $148, the company said in a statement. The program will start rolling out nationwide at over 3,200 Wal-Mart locations and will be available on Walmart.com.

"Our alliance with Walmart is an extension of our goal to consistently offer consumers a convenient, affordable and effective weight loss option. Walmart provides us with a new and valuable distribution channel to broaden our customer base and build awareness of our product at the retail level."said Will Auchincloss, Sr. VP of Business Dev at Nutrisystem.

It's a MOVEMENT not a MOMENT ...

... the best way to describe my journey, I think. This weekend I embarked on a personal impossibility - before it proved to be a possibility ;) a half marathon ... 13.1 miles (2:39) and I feel great! It solidified to me, that scale aside - the progress has to be in our lifestyles! Now, I've been putting it in fierce tapping into my competitive side getting ready for the event ... but now that it's done ... I don't plan on letting up. Why? Because it's a MOVEMENT, it's on the next one. My hope is that the rest of these pounds will diminish ... but I know for sure if I continue to press on, they'll have no choice - so I'm not stressing ;) ... and plan to enjoy, train and FIGHT ...

*Pics and details will all be encompassed in the non-profit "For My Culture" publication, to be released in January of 2010. This weekend marked the end of my "journey" with the project and I'm still very appreciate of this opportunity. I began in the high 1's and will end crossing a finish line. I do plan on returning to YouTube early in the year too (vids were put on hold for FMC), but not nearly as much as before. I love blogging! lol ... In addition, progress pics and such will follow the release - so it's coming too! ... But, the real story and 'after' effect is how I LIVE now ... hence my will to blog throughout. I think that's the legacy I want to have when this is all said and done. A scale is a moment, my lifestyle change is the movement. Love you Jazmine, Isela, Portia, Danny, Shanita, Mark, Becks, Andrea and all of the FMC writers and staff. We major!!! ♥ ~PC

Wellsphere.com Featured Weight Loss Blogger

Hey peeps, quick post - I was afforded the opportunity a few months ago to become a featured blogger via Wellsphere.com (a 6M member all-encompassing health site), with a follow-up recently. The partnering was initially tempting, I've done some research ... but I'm still not sure what to gather from it. Are there any bloggers who have taken the opportunity, has it worked for you, experiences? If you have the time, please feel free to email me (madamethejourney@gmail.com), it would be most appreciated! =) ~PC

The Fat Tax: Weigh More, Pay More!?

BIG Government is going after Big People? ... well, not yet - just North Carolina. Lawmakers of the state are prepared to enforce lifestyle taxes (via increased health insurance premiums) for state employees who smoke or have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 40 or more - commencing in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

Needless to say this is bringing out much support, in addition to strong opposition. An invasion of privacy, discriminatory even ... claims those against this tariff. Causing fear, that it could start the ripple of socialistic "Nanny States" punishing those who are keeping the country heavy and looming with the threat of preventable and costly diseases, often attributed to obesity. Totally a figurative slap in the face to those who claim natural obesity, medical-induced obesity, and Health at Every Size believers.

One of the contributors on MSNBC's CoJ this morning implied, "education isn't working, we have to do something". In, that resources to healthy insight are simply not being adhered to. As our waistlines grow, so does the state's fiscal bottom line. Like welfare, many claim to be tired of paying for their neighbor's shortcomings and the tax, will pull the reigns on the hike of insurance group rates boosted by obesity-related expenses.

Some have added that considering President Obama's vow to NOT increase the deficit from health care reform (forgive my ignorance, I'm still confused as to how this is possible) ... unleeeeess we take into account all of these controversial conceptual "taxes" ... Soda Pop & Sugary Drinks Tax, Botox/Plastic Surgery Tax ... and well this ... a Fat Tax ... ~PC

American Idol's Mandisa ... 80 Pound Weight Loss

The vocal powerhouse, never let her size deter her from pursuing entertainment dreams. That reigned fact as she debuted on AI Season 5 ... even after Simon's disappointing "do we have a bigger stage this year?" query during the premiere of the multi-million viewer show. While she didn't take the ultimate win, she left a winner! Continuing to perform and hit the studio - her latest effort, entitled "True Beauty" ... has a message ... to not define others by appearance ... her method and thoughts? ... after the jump ;) ... ~PC

Source: NY Daily News - "American Idol Alum Mandisa Shows off her 80 Pound Weight Loss"

"My favorite memory started out as my least favorite memory and that was when Simon Cowell made fun of my weight on the very first show. That was my worst nightmare come true. When I saw Simon the next time, I told him I forgave him because an important part of my faith is forgiving others because I have been forgiven. I will never forget that reaction: the look on his face - humbled and giving me a big hug.

When I was recording that album, I started to do the work necessary to be set free: changing my eating habits. No particular diet, just eating healthy. I started working with a personal trainer and a counselor who specializes in eating disorders. I have lost 80 pounds since I started recording.

I don't believe in diets, because I have lost weight on them all, but the thing about diets is that you have the mindset that you stop a diet when you are done losing weight. This really is a lifestyle change for me."

Among the many changes Hundley had to make in her life, the singer says she cut out tempting Krispy Kreme doughnuts and worked with a personal trainer who makes her do cardio, weight training and a Latin form of dancing called Zumba.

Tori Spelling ... Denies Weight Loss

"Star Mag...Lies!", she tweets (channeling Congressman Joe Wilson). You know society has changed, when celebs (or psuedo) go out of their way to deny they've lost weight ... ::insert Kanye Shrug:: Interesting. First Scarlett Johansson - now star of the "Tori & Dean" series ... fires back at tabloids ...

The magazine's current issue states that she is so frail (95lbs) she's about to break due to a breaking marriage. Further, blaming anorexic complications and a mental disorder for her recent hospitalization. Which her rep indicates was not the case - she was having a "stomach ailment". So she went in on them tweetly:

{sic}
"Star Mag...LIES! Literally not 1 factual thing in entire article. And, come 2 my house&weigh me Star! I'm 107lbs. if you care about FACTS?!? I think its UNFAIR tht magazines & entertainment shows can print/air celebs tweets.want2B able2 tweet w/my tweeps&now have2watch wht I write. This is my weight, and I'm not unhealthy, I'm very healthy. It is hard to be criticized in public, and it's harder for your family to deal with it than you. You kind of get a thick skin. When you have kids and when you have a husband, it's upsetting."

Weight Loss, Friend Loss ...

"I never see you with your girls anymore", those words came from the security guard aka "Sexy Kev" ... lol ... as I was walking to my car going home on Friday. It's no secret, people can see I spend more time with different individuals, since starting my journey.

Now I'm going to be real, the "girls" are indeed my thick friends. When I was a fluffy new youngster in the area, they took me under their wings. It felt good, to be around women who didn't judge me for my figure. Because hell, they looked like me! There was a time when we were all pushing 250+. Expected, when they loved fast food, and hated exercising just as much as I did. A clique of enablers who would talk of diets, but settled for high fat lunches, vending machine snacks as the daily routine.

Now I'll say this, I didn't forcefully or deliberately disassociate myself with the "girls". It just naturally happened. My lifestyle is just not in tune with their agenda any longer. I struggled for a long time with not wanting to be the chick who loses weight and starts to "change". Even sacrificing my feelings to not ruffle the feathers of some. I refrained from judging and being preachy and even ceased ALL mentions of my physical changes when we were all together. Ironically, one of them would always be the one to bring it up ...

But the 1st time I said I think I'm going to pass on lunch today (which happened to be Taco Bell) - it hit the fan! "You eat a few salads, lose weight and don't want to be seen with us now?" Feeling extremely GUILTY - I quickly conformed, scared I'd lose my girlfriends at work, for wanting to be ... HEALTHY - silly me, shut up and get in the van ... find the least cal item on the menu, eat and be happy. I'd even put out suggestions of some healthier choices they'd take the offer with reluctance, get there and complain the entire time ... so I just quit. It was obvious that they were unhappy, as was I. I could not continue to deny who and what I wanted to be or suppress the methods in which I wanted to follow ... to ease the minds of others. They didn't deserve a "fake" me.

Now being the more reserved, timid one it was a big step to start saying no. Not to mention they are all 15+ years older then me - so there was the tinge of big sister conviction too ... So, this Summer I'm like we have this lovely 1.5 mile walking trail to our leisure, squaring our building. I'm going to start casually walking, a few days out of the week. I don't need to spend my entire lunch hour, eating. I decided to split it up - started packing my lunch which saves me so much MONEY as well as calories ... and began to walk and we kind of drifted from there.

Now, I still speak to all of them, have occasional catch-up lunches with those who I know have my best interests in mind and support me ... but just aren't ready to take that step with me (which is completely fine). So all's not lost but ... the image that I lost some weight and don't hang with my big girls anymore is only the surface ...

For instance, my new found homeboy Joel (lean, fit, bluegrass music listenin' white boy ... lol ...) who bikes to work 7 miles (weather-permitted) and has never stepped foot in our elevator. He brings in finds from his rural farmer's market for me to try out each week and engrosses me with his daily thoughts on the political spectrum ... I've also become his surrogate proofreader when his girlfriend is busy lol ... as he's going for a Master's too - in TEACHING ... I would have never known so much about him ... but our healthy lifestyles seemed to bring us closer together.

My girl Ashley, a health foodie who has been helping me train for my 1 st half marathon ... since she found out I was going to be a part of it - is always dropping knowledge. And she soooo can, considering she's done like 5 of them and 2 fulls! People like this ignite me now, we aren't all 'eat right exercise' every minute of the day, but having that as an underlining similarity, learning from each other and still getting into debates over whether Obama deserved the Nobel Peach Prize ... is a better medium.

RaShad keeps telling me, you can't make people understand you. You just have to "do you". I don't see it as being flighty, especially when you actually look at the circumstances. They say people are in your life for seasons. The changes I've made, simply don't permit me to do the same things or hang with the some of the same people.

What's funny is that, I've been through this social shift before! Yep, when you're 1 of the few out of the hood to actually graduate high school first off, not get pregnant and go to college and graduate AGAIN ... lol ... you're an automatic stand out. When I came home from school, some relationships ended. I certainly don't think I'm better than anyone, we just weren't on the same path anymore. Some were still focused on clubbing, staying into trouble and drama and I was ready to start my career ... no hard feelings - still my girls to this day ... but people change.

You know really, maybe I have changed ... but that's the point right? ~PC

What Are You Doing??? - General Update

I'm only a few weeks away from my first 1/2, so it's definitely time to really buckle down. My graduate studies resumed a few weeks ago, so if you can imagine - working full-time has put a nice little strain on my schedule. But, I got this yo! ... lol ... Here's a little update on the regimen ...

My focus has really been my diet; continued varied cals per day, an influx in my protein (ironically, not eating much meat though), fresh fruits & veggies as my dependency on processed foods is weakening (thank goodness). It's funny, I used to look at nutritional labels and beam right to the 'Calories' or 'Fat', sometimes 'Sugar' ... now, I go straight for the ingredients ... lol ... that gives me a much better picture!

Today's grabs for the week: All Natural Oat & Honey Flakes, Mixed Greens, Carrots, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Honey Dew Melon, POM Mango & Pomegranate, Pineapples, Strawberries, Kiwi, Red Pears, Black Berries, Squash, Ranch Dressing ... and I founds some natural frozen entrees Kashi brand that I'm going to test out at lunch tomorrow ...

As far as training ... mornings have consisted of jogs and/or yoga at home. I walk daily during the work week with the new and oh so fab "Stroll Patrol" <-- our dept's walking club. And my evenings (M,W,F) are to the mercy of my ace trainer - Terk. I'm glad to report that I'm no longer afraid of weights! Resistance has been so effective in my muscle dexterity, I can't even begin to explain. Now I still love my cardio, ellip and tread ... outside of logging miles, they've taken a side seat to my resistance training.

But umm, that's it for now ... I hope you are all still in this fighting the good fight ... cheers to a fantastically powerful week ahead ... ;) ~PC

WTH? Files: The Heart Attack Grill + Cankles Awareness Campaign

1. Highlights of this dinery; lard-dipped buns and all-you-can eat fries, and if you are over 350lbs (there is a scale on the premises) you eat free once a day ...
